Tribute Tuesday – Mike Zeck's Secret Wars #1

MARVEL SUPER HEROES SECRET WARS was Marvel’s first big comic event that was directly and specifically tied into a line of action figures, which were created by Mattel in the 1980s. Featuring all of Marvel’s most prominent heroes and villains fighting on Battleworld, the comics and toys were a huge success. I personally had all the comics and as many of the action figures as I was able to track down. Awesome art by Mike Zeck sure helped make it all look amazing. Here’s my Mini Marvels tribute to SECRET WARS #1 based on Mike Zeck’s original classic cover.

Tribute Tuesday – Mike Zeck's Captain America #277

An unintentional DOUBLE TRIBUTE this week! I did a CAPTAIN AMERICA #277 cover tribute at a convention, but little did I realize that the CAPTAIN AMERICA cover, originally drawn by Mike Zeck, was itself already a tribute to the cover of DETECTIVE COMICS #395 by Neal Adams! Cool stuff!Captain America 277 by Mike Zeck and Chris G

I went with a 60¢ cover price on my tribute, although the example of the original here says 75¢. I thought it was an odd mistake for me to have made, so I did about two minutes of research and discovered there were two versions. The 75¢ version was a Canadian variant. Interesting, right? Okay, maybe not, but the point is I didn’t get the price wrong!
