Teacher. Boxer. Illustrator. John Buscema created some of the most awesomely iconic comics art in the history of comics. Who else but John Buscema could have stepped in where King Kirby left off on Marvel mainstays Thor and the Fantastic Four? John also drew amazing runs on Silver Surfer, Avengers, and Conan, and illustrated tons of other books to boot.

Tribute Tuesday: Sensation Comics #1, Wonder Woman!

Legend has it that Wonder Woman’s golden lasso was inspired by the polygraph. The guy who invented it, William Marston, came up with the idea for the hero who became Wonder Woman. Mrs. Marston insisted that the character be female, and thus Wonder Woman arrived on the comics scene. And with that bit of trivia, here’s my tribute to Harry G. Peter’s sensational cover to Sensation Comics #1.

Tribute Tuesday: Jack Kirby's Tales of Suspense #80

The name Jack Kirby (and the infinitely talented man behind the name) is synonymous with the phrase “awesome comics.” Kirby’s output at Marvel and DC is pretty much unmatched as far as the creation of marquee characters goes. If you only ever read one comic in your life, there’s a good chance that one of the characters in it was created by “King” Kirby.
Tales of Suspense #80 features Captain America battling the Red Skull, and we’ve even got the Cosmic Cube thrown into the mix for good measure. Awesome comics.
